  8. Software Innovations Announces HandOff™ II, The File Launcher

  10. San Francisco, CA--April 10, 1990-- Software Innovations has announced HandOff
  11. II, an advanced product with all the features of HandOff, plus added power and
  12. flexibility.  HandOff II will also launch applications and open documents with
  13. the convenience of a pop-up menu that  is always accessible.

  15. In addition to the features of HandOff, HandOff II will allow users to assign
  16. files to applications in three ways:  by creator (e.g., MacWrite), by type
  17. (e.g., TEXT) and by filename extension (e.g., WK1).  For example, the user
  18. could assign all MacWrite files to MacWrite II, except for TEXT files which
  19. could open into TeachText.  These assignments can now all be made from a very
  20. easy to use Control Panel interface.

  22. HandOff II provides a user-configurable pop-up menu to launch applications and
  23. open documents.  The launcher in HandOff II is more sophisticated than other
  24. launchers in that it will automatically locate an application, even if it’s
  25. been renamed or moved.  Other file launchers require reconfiguring after
  26. installing application upgrades that append the version number to the file
  27. name.

  29. HandOff II will also automatically set the color depth and sound level to suit
  30. the application being launched.  Many color paint programs and games may
  31. require the Macintosh to be set for 256 colors before operating.  Apple’s
  32. HyperCard requires 2-color mode for its special effects.

  34. HandOff II will retail for $79.95 and is scheduled for release at the end of
  35. May.  Users who purchase HandOff since February 1, 1990 can upgrade to HandOff
  36. II for $15 if ordered before its release.  Other users can upgrade for $20.
  37. After HandOff II is released, the upgrade fee will be $30 for all users.
  38. HandOff 1.1 users who elect to upgrade to HandOff II will receive HandOff 1.2
  39. as well.  Upgrade letters have been sent to all registered users.  For more
